Core Quarterly January 2018

The first Core quarterly meeting of 2018 took place on Friday 26th January at America Square.

The Core team was delighted to welcome a special guest speaker to the meeting; Team GB sailor and Paralympic gold-medallist, Helena Lucas. Helena won gold in sailing at the London 2012 Paralympics, and bronze in Rio 2016.

Helena delivered an inspiring and motivational presentation to the Core team, talking in-depth about her sailing career, how she overcame the adversity of her disability to succeed in her chosen sport, and how it feels to win a Paralympic gold medal.

She pointed out that some of the Core company values -such as ‘Passion’ and ‘Action’- are the same as the British Sailing Team values, and drew parallels between the commitment, dedication and sacrifice needed to win a gold medal and to succeed in business. Helena even brought her gold and bronze medals with her for the day, giving the Core team the rare opportunity to see a Paralympic medal up close! Helena’s presentation was hugely inspiring, and everyone took a great deal away from it.

Continuing the theme of achievement and perseverance, the Core Staff Awards also took place during the meeting. In the weeks leading up to the quarterly, staff had been asked to vote for their colleagues in the categories of ‘Unsung Hero’, ‘Outstanding Innovator’, ‘Great Motivator’, ‘OneCore’ and ‘Core All Star’. The ‘OneCore’ and ‘Core All Star’ awards recognised staff members who embody and demonstrate the Core values and spirit of Core in their daily work. The winners were: Rodica Chiritescu (Procurement Lead and Administration, Unsung Hero), Isha Hartono (SharePoint Designer, Outstanding Innovator), Hannah Newman (Inside Sales, Great Motivator), Andrew Mudamai (Infrastructure Consultant, OneCore) and David O’Connell (Infrastructure Consultant, Core All Star). All the winners received a prize and an award engraved with their name and the Core logo, for them to keep.

The meeting was a huge success and we look forward to celebrating the achievements of Q1 at our next meeting in April.
