Talk Talk data breach: could it have been avoided?

Could the Talk Talk data breach have been avoided? The short answer is, yes...

The recent TalkTalk data breach has shown how even the biggest companies are now vulnerable to cyber security attacks. The breach, which took place in October 2015, led to the theft of personal data of almost 157,000 customers. In nearly 16,000 of these cases, bank account details were stolen.

Attacks like these are becoming a more regular occurrence amongst all organisations. With high-profile data breaches at TalkTalk, Ashley Maddison, Vodafone and Experian, security is a real and present threat. So, how can you ensure you are not next on the list?

The frequency and sophistication of cybersecurity attacks are getting worse... Here are the stats:

  • 200+ - The median number of days an intruder resides within a victim's network before detection
  • 75% - The percentage of all network intrusions that are due to compromised user credentials
  • $500B - The total potential cost of cybercrime to the global economy

If you want to find out how you can avoid becoming one of these statistics, contact us, sign up to one of the webinars we are hosting in December and January, or take a look at some of our other upcoming events.
