27 July 2020 | London: Core Technology Systems Ltd, a Microsoft Gold partner managed service provider, is delighted to announce that Sean Wingrove, Core’s Head of PMO, has been shortlisted as a finalist in the New Service Leaver of the Year category of the British Ex-Forces in Business Awards 2020.

The British Ex-Forces in Business Awards is the world's largest celebration of military veterans in second careers. The annual programme and event uncovers the achievements of ex-military, showcasing them as important role models for current and future service leavers. The awards highlight the military-gained skills and values that have helped enable their second career success and recognise the organisations that have supported them.

The New Service Leaver of the Year category recognises ex-forces personnel who left the military less than three years ago and, through an effective transition, are already achieving great things in a second career.

Conor Callanan, CEO of Core, said: “Congratulations to Sean for making the shortlist. We are delighted to see his contribution to our business being recognised.”

Callanan continued: “Most businesses have a need for strong processes and discipline, especially those in programme and project management, and ex-military personnel not only demonstrate these skills in abundance but are often eager and very capable of learning new skills.”

The winners of the British Ex-Forces in Business Awards are decided by an independent judging panel, led by former head of the navy Sir George Zambellas. Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony gala dinner on 20 October 2020, this year to be held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.

This is a flagship gathering of business, veteran and military communities and the largest awards dinner of its kind anywhere in the world; a unique and inspirational event aimed at recognising the strong synergies between military skills/values and business excellence and promoting a positive narrative of veterans as assets to employers across all sectors.

The nominations for each of the 18 categories have been carefully considered and shortlisted down from over 500 entries to just under 200, with the final winners being announced at the ceremony.

Commenting on his nomination, Sean said: ‘’I was delighted to be nominated and shortlisted for this prestigious award. It is testament to the leadership at Core that they have understood the benefits, skills and ethos that a career in the armed forces can bring to the organisation.

Core is all about teamwork, integrity and the can-do attitude that is prevalent across the military so it’s like a home from home for me. The support I’ve had from my peers and senior management has been amazing and enabled me to quickly find my feet in a new career.’’

Callanan concludes: “Core are committed to employing a wide range highly skilled staff, from roles in software development to service desk support, and marketing to HR. We recognise the value of experience gained from a multitude of industries and encourage applicants from all stages in their career. Individuals who have previously worked in the forces bring a blend of skills and experience gained in a uniquely high-pressure environment that can be transferred to our fast-paced, evolving industry.”
